MHAIRI 1st FEMALE IN ANCIENT RACE
Lothian Running Club’s Mhairi Inglis was the winner on Saturday of the female category of a race that is recognised by the Guiness Book of Records as the oldest footrace in the World.
The Carnwath Red Hose Race dates back to 1508.The race which is now run in conjunction with the Carnwath Agricultural Show still sees the overall race champion being presented with the traditional pair of Red Hose. The 4.5k course starts and finishes in the show field at Heads Inn Farm and is run over roads and grass.
12 months ago Sarah Inglis, sister of Mhairi was the first ever female to be overall winner of the ancient event. Unfortunately Sarah didn’t receive the Red Hose as to do so you must reside within the Parish of South Lanarkshire.
