GOOD CLUB TURN OUT AT AWARDS NITE

Lothian Running Club were well represented at the annual Scottish Highland Games[SHGA]/Fife Highland Games Association[FHGA] presentation dinner in Glenrothes on Saturday evening[27th Nov] with four members each picking up two awards and many family and friends there to support them.
The first awards to be presented were from the FHGA and Bathgate sprinter Darren Thomson who won the points league for events up to 400 metres was presented with his trophy from Scottish internationalist Gemma Nicol who represented her country at the recent Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
There was a family 1-2 in the Fife league for events over 400 metres where Robert Inglis triumphed pipping his sister Mhairi who finished joint runner up.
11 year old Hannah Stewart from Blackburn was the club’s leading youth athlete on the circuit this season and picked up prizes for finishing 3rd in the FHGA and 2nd in the SHGA leagues for youth races over 400 metres.
Both Darren Thomson and Robert Inglis also picked up SHGA league awards, Thomson was runner up in the 90m-200m league with Inglis occupying the same position in the 1600m-3200m.
Next up was the main SHGA awards for 2010 and it saw Mhairi Inglis being rewarded for her successful season on the circuit by being presented with the ‘Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year Trophy by SHGA vice-president Charlie Murray.
Mhairi[19] a second year student at Glasgow Caledonian University showed a high degree of consistency throughout the season and won races over both 800 metres and 1600 metres as well as picking up numerous second and third place prizes.
This is the third time in six years a Lothian club runner has won this award, with Mhairi following in the footsteps of her sister Sarah who won it in 2005 as a youth athlete and Lauren Arbuckle also as a youth last year.
