Updated: 2010-09-21
Lothian Running Club’s Sarah Inglis produced a battling PB to take the Scottish Athletics 10k Road Running title at Stirling on Sunday, the race was also the final event of seven in the 2010 Stewarts Scottish Road Race Grand Prix.
The race started at Forthbank Stadium before heading through Forthside, around Riverside and then taking an “out-and-back” route in Cambuskenneth before returning to Forthbank via Riverside.
Despite it being cool and rainy it was also wind free and with the course being predominantly flat it offered a good opportunity for fast 10k times, and so it proved with the first five runners home in the womens race recording new PB’s.
In the early stages of the race it had developed into a fourway war of attrition between Sarah, Lily Partridge,[ Farnham & Dist], Jennifer McLean[Edinburgh AC], and Falkirk Victoria Harriers veteran Fiona Mathieson who had won all previous six races in the Grand Prix series.
As the race progressed it was the Lothian runner who gradually broke the resolve of her rivals, and when she crossed the finish line back at Forthbank she stopped the clock at 34 minutes 31 seconds which was 85 seconds quicker than her previous best for the distance set on the Isle of Man earlier in the year, McLean took the runners up spot in [34:38] with Mathieson third in[ 34:44] with Partridge fourth [35:15].
There were also good runs and PB’s from club members in a very competitve Men’s race Mens race, Ross Milne finished in 14th spot in [32:29] with Max McNeil’s PB time of [33:48] placing him 31st overall and 2nd in the Junior 15-19 category.
Making up the clubs representation were Scott Nelson in 111th [38:11] and Ross McMaster just behind in 119th [38:24] both were PB’s.
