Record Turnout At parkrun
16 JAN2013
Unseasonably mild conditions combined with an influx of ‘resolution’ runners meant parkrun experienced a record turnout at the weekend with over 29,000 runners taking part across the world. Scotland in particular experienced remarkably high attendances with record numbers at events in Glasgow (491), Edinburgh (391) and Dundee (117).
Strathclyde parkrun also had an impressive 203 people in attendance including top marathon runner, Hayley Haining. Hayley finished with a time of 16:49 making her fastest female in what was her first parkrun, just 4 seconds behind fastest male Robert Gilroy. Another successful first timer was Hamish Roper of Harmeny AC who was fastest at Camperdown parkrun in Dundee with a time of 19:47. The Glasgow event was won by veretan Kilbarchan AAC runner, Robert Quinn (16:16) and Edinburgh saw Peter Avent of Penicuik Harriers finish first in 17:12.
parkrun organises free, weekly 5k timed runs throughout the UK and has recently expanded globally with events in Australia, USA, South Africa, Denmark and many other countries. For more information visit the parkrun homepage.
