Updated: 2010-08-17
Sunday’s Perth Highland Games saw the South Inch bathed in glorious sunshine.
The warm and sticky conditions however failed to deter the clubs runners from getting among the prizes once again.
Mhairi Inglis continued her recent fine vein of form by racing to victory in the Open 800 metres Handicap, running from a reduced start of 157.5 metres the Lothian runner had to dig deep in the latter stages of a competitive race to repel all challengers and cross the finish line in 1 minute 51. 72 seconds.
Mhairi was followed home by her sister Sarah who was also in the prizes in 6th place.
Sarah who was making only her second appearance on this summers games circuit ran a better race in the longer 3200 metres handicap where she placed 3rd behind backmarkers Lachlan Oates, Shettleston AC and Kenny Anderson, Glenrothes.
Sprinter Darren Thomson won his heat in the Open 200 metres Handicap before going on to finish a close up 3rd in the final later in the afternoon.
In the Youth events 11 year old Hannah Stewart turned in a couple of sterling performances in both the 800 and 1600 metres.
In the 800 metres she finished runner-up only being overhauled in the home straight by eventual winner Connor Morris Dunfermline West Fife AC.
The club’s Nicola Kellock was also in the prizes in the 800 in 4th place.
