AMONG THE PRIZES AT ALVA GAMES

There was a good representation of athletes from the Lothian Running Club at Saturday’s [10th July] Famous Alva Games, and despite the inclement weather they were still among the prizes.
In the Open 90 metres Handicap Darren Thomson, Bathgate won his heat which qualified him for the cross-ties where he finished runner up, that was good enough to take him through to the Grand Final where he finished a close up third behind winner Jonathon Farrell, Old Kilpatrick and Sean Harris DWF.
Alan Stewart, Blackburn also progressed to the cross ties by virtue of a second place finish in his heat, however he narrowly missed out on a place in the final being just pipped for the final qualifying spot.
Sister’s Ashley and Sarah Stewart,Blackburn along with their grandfather John, Armadale were all eliminated in the heats.
Thomson was also in the prizes in the 200 metres Handicap,he came through strongly to win his heat but was denied a clear run in the final and had to settle for fifth place.
Robert Inglis, Avonbridge was in the prizes in all three races he contested, firstly in the 800 metres Handicap he came home in sixth place before finishing in fifth in both the 1600 and 3200 metres Handicaps.
Mhairi Inglis, Avonbridge ran both the 800 and 1600 where she finished 10th and 8th respectively, Mhairi didn’t go home empty handed however as she picked up a prize in the closing relay race.
11 year old Hannah Stewart Blackburn went one better than her father in getting through to the final of the Youth’s 90 metres Handicap, Hannah finished third in her heat and crossed the line in fifth place in the final.
Bethany Nelson also contested the event but was eliminated in her heat.
In the Youth’s 1600 metres Handicap Lauren Arbuckle, Addiewell, Hannah Stewart Blackburn and Bethany Nelson, Livingston crossed the winning line in fourth sixth and eighth respectively.
Lauren was also third in the Youth’s 400 metres Handicap.
Club runners will be in action again this weekend at the Loch Lomond Games at Balloch on Saturday and the Thornton Highland Games in Fife on Sunday.
