The club’s Sarah Inglis is currently spending the Easter Weekend on the Isle of Man where she is representing Edinburgh University in the 50th Easter Athletics Festival which sees the athletes run three races in three days.

The Festival will burst into life on Good Friday evening with the Blue Riband of the Festival – the 10 kilometre Road Race – supported by Bushy’s and held on a scenic route in the Port Erin and Port St Mary area. The race starts at 19.00 close to Port Erin Breakwater and usually attracts a large crowd of spectators. The route finishes outside the former Marine Biological Station.

On Saturday afternoon the action moves to Peel for the famous Peel Hill Race with its lung bursting climbs and concludes on Sunday morning with a men’s 4 x 5k relay race and women’s 5k road race on Douglas Promenade, which are supported by The Outback Sports Bar and Nightclub.

On her only previous appearance at the event in 2010 Sarah emerged as the overall female winner, with 2 wins and a second place, despite not being in quite as good shape as then, she got her 2012 campaign off to a good start with a 4th place out of 112 runners in Friday nights 10k race in a time of 36 minutes 51 seconds.

The festival concludes with what for many is the highlight of the weekend. The prize giving on Sunday night. This is always a great night and features a disco and the ”famous beer drinking races”In short, this is a great athletic and social weekend. Good, friendly competition in a different environment and, for some, the chance to win a bit of beer money (or more) along the way as well.
