World silver for Yvonne in Malaga
Lothian Running Club can now boast a World Championship silver medalist among their ranks. At the recent World championships in Malaga, Yvonne Crilley produced one of her best ever performances to claim a silver medal in the F55 800 metres.
Yvonne qualified for the final by winning her heat in 2 minutes 39.29 seconds, 24 hours later in the final the Lothian athlete excelled to a marvellous time of 2:30.76 to place 2nd behind fellow Brit Virginia Mitchell, Guildford AC. Christine Anthony, West Suffolk AC made it a GB clean sweep on the podium by taking the bronze medal. This success comes on the back of Yvonne taking the F55 800 metres Scottish title at Grangemouth in July.
8000 athletes from all five continents aged from 35 up to 100 took part in the championships on the Mediterranean coast.
