WINDSOR, Ontario – The Trinity Western women’s track and field team had a record day at the national championships as the Spartans earned four medals, including their first ever CIS relay medal, a long jump gold and both the silver and bronze in the 3000m, Friday at the St. Denis Sports Centre.

Claudette Allen (New Longville, Jamaica), who was named the CIS Female Rookie of the Year earlier in the week, led the way for the Spartans as she captured gold in long jump with a mark of 6.20m. Her effort completed the long jump double as she previously had earned Canada West gold.

Allen’s first place finish earns TWU its second straight women’s long jump title, with Sabrina Nettey (Surrey, B.C.), who finished fifth this year with a jump of 5.93m, having won gold in 2014.

Meanwhile, the Spartans 4x800m relay team made history of its own as it won TWU’s first ever CIS relay medal, while also smashing the school’s 4x800m record with a time of 8:48.00. The team featured Anastasia Pearse (Victoria), Fiona Benson (Dawson Creek, B.C.), Meg Harradine (Langley, B.C.) and Sarah Inglis (Falkirk, Scotland). The previous record, which was set earlier this year, was 8:52.27.

For relay medallists Benson and Inglis, it was a double-medal day, as the duo also finished second and third respectively in the 3000m. Benson clocked in at 9:16.08 to capture silver while Inglis ran a time of 9:21.03 to grab bronze.
