EAST DIST XC LEAGUE [LRC-2001-2015]

EAST DIST xc LEAGUE
LOTHIAN RC 2001-02/2014-15
On the eve of the final match of the 2014/15 East District xc League at Broxburn we can take a look back over the club’s achievements in the event.
The competition actually started way back in 1924 when the races were for male athletes only
LRC made their debut in 2001 following the formation of the club which incidentally coincided with the first ever races for females.

Over the years the club has had five category wins as well as individual race success but as yet no overall triumphs.
The inaugural year saw the club claim three individual titles with wins for both the Under-11 and Under-13 Girls as well as the Male Masters. In 2002/03 there was success for the club’s Senior Ladies followed in 2007/08 with victory for the club girls in the Under 17-15 age group.

The Under-11 Girls were spearheaded by Sarah and Mhairi Inglis with Jenna Toner and K. Gillespie at the forefront for the Under-13’s.
The Masters squad was led by Colin Meek, Peter Dymoke, G Gilhooley and S Dempsey. The Senior Ladies had C Rougvie, G Godfrey and J Ackland in the vanguard for their success.

When you look at the level where many of the athletes who were in the fields are at present the most notable success probably came from the Under17/15 girls in 2007/08, the races at all three venues were littered with athletes who have all gone on to represent Scotland in major events. It highlights the quality of performances from the quartet of Lothian girls, with Sarah and Mhairi Inglis 1st & 2nd at both Broxburn and
Kirkcaldy and 1st & 4th at Livingston, ably backed up by Lana
Turnbull and Rachel McIlraith. Apart from the Lothian girls others in the three races in 07/08 who have gone on to pull on both GB and Scottish vests included Eilish McColgan, Laura Muir, Emily Dudgeon, Emily Stewart and many more.

Edel Mooney and many others have also performed well individually over the years, Edel has recorded wins at ivingston in 2006, 2008 and 2012 as well as at Broxburn also in 2012.
