The Cauldstane Slap is the name of a pass where an old drove road from West Linton towards Livingston crossed the Pentland Hills between East and West Cairn hills.  (Well visible from North Livingston).   The race was organised by Lothian Cycle Club, a handicapped “foot race”, from Baddingsgill Farm to The Cauldstane Slap and back, the Old Drovers Track. The first race wasin 1975
The start is at Baddingsgill,  4k along a narrow road which leaves the A702 Edinburgh – Biggar Road on the SW side of West Linton and goes straight on past the Golf Course turning.
The course is out and back, starting with a short steep climb on tarmac. Then a track fast and wide and fast  at first but becoming more challenging and ending with narrow heathery footpath.
Total distance and climb about 8.5k  /  240m.
The organisation used to be very informal.  You just turn up soon after 9.30 and try and persuade the organiser that you are slow / injured / ill and need an early handicap start time.
