Alan & Shona pick up SUMS Awards
Lothian Running Club duo Alan Robertson and Shona Young have just completed a successful season in the Scottish Ultra Marathon Series[SUMS], and on Saturday evening they were in Glasgow to pick up their prizes at the annual SUMS Awards Ceremony.
The Series comprises independently organised Scottish ultra marathons to form a season-long championship. A minimum of three races must be completed to be included in the Championship points table at the end of the season. At the end of the season the top runners in the Overall Championship as well as the Age Categories, for both Male & Female, are decided by the sum of their top three points for the season.
Alan who competed in a total of five events finished in 1st place in the Super Veteran 60+ category while Shona who contested 4 races was an excellent 5th overall in the female category and 2nd in F40 age group, Shona was also 3rd in the Short Series of races.
For Shona there was little time to celebrate as the following day she was back in action in the Antonine Wall Trail Half Marathon. The Lothian runner had to contend with heavy rain, wind and deep mud as she completed the course in 1 hour 53 minutes 47 seconds to place 3rd in the Women’s category, despite the adverse conditions Shona was almost a minute quicker than her time from the previous year.
