G2E SILVER FOR SHONA
Shona Young continued the fine form of the Lothian Running Club female athletes with an excellent silver medal in the gruelling G2E Ultra Marathon on Saturday.
The Glasgow to Edinburgh Ultra Marathon is approximately 55 miles in distance. Starting in Ruchill Park the race follows the course of the Forth & Clyde and Union canals and takes in the Antonine Wall and the Falkirk Wheel before leading the competitors into the heart of the Capital to the finish at Edinburgh Quay. There are check points at 10 mile intervals along the course.
Shona was over the moon with her performance as this was the first time she had ran this distance. Crossing the finish line in 9 hours 12 minutes 40 seconds saw the Lothian runner place 22nd overall and 2nd in the female category behind race winner Isobel Knox, Hunters Bog Trotters, 8:09.02. 107 runners completed the course, many didn’t. Paul Campbell from Bathgate also contested the race and finished in 48th place in 10:18.29.
