PETER WEST’S TIREE ROUND UP

A group of Lothian Runners, with family and friends, descended on Hynish on the Isle of Tiree for the 10k weekend, this year, for the first time, also incorporating a half marathon. The course for both races starts with a 1 km stretch on the beach, then follows the same route for about 7km before splitting. Both courses finish with a 500m run back on the beach. So far, so good. Unfortunately this year the Tiree sunshine disappeared for the most part, being replacing by a strengthening gale and intermittent heavy showers. The gale too was blowing along the length of the beach making these sections even tougher than usual.

Our group all survived and we had a wee haul of prizes, from an extensive prize list, at the evening prize giving:

The whole weekend was an entirely enjoyable experience, with brilliant company sharing the superb Hebridean Trust accommodation at Hynish, a well organised and fun event in the 10k, half marathon and kid’s beach run, all topped off with the magic that is Tiree, even when the weather’s not the best. Roll on 2014.
