FROM BALLOCH TO BOSTON

ACTION FROM THREE CONTINENTS

Vienna Marathon

From Balloch to Boston it was a globe trotting weekend for Lothian RC members who contested events from parkruns to marathons in three different Continents.

 BOSTON MARATHON
The club’s Shona Young was among the 23,181 runners who lined up for the 117th running of the Boston Marathon on Monday morning. The world-famous race is held every Patriots’ Day — a holiday in Massachusetts commemorating the first battles of the Revolutionary War.
The course is a point-to-point route, starting in Hopkinton, Mass., and ending in Copley Square in Boston. The 26.2-mile run takes athletes through Ashland, Framingham, Natick and Wellesley before heading into the Newton Hills — including Heartbreak Hill — and eventually the finish line in Boston. Shona [46] from Broxburn completed the course in 3 hours 38 minutes 52 seconds which placed her 278th in the W45-49 category.[See breakdown of her run in earlier post below]

SARAH RUNNER-UP IN HALF MARATHON DEBUT
Sarah Inglis made her half marathon debut on Sunday in the Balloch to Clydebank Road Race and turned in an encouraging performance despite the far from ideal conditions of wind and rain.
Sarah finished in 2nd place in the Senior Women’s category in 1h 22m 04s which also placed her 17th overall 0f the 326 finishers.
The event is one of the longer standing road races in the Scottish Athletics calendar first held in 1928.

  CORRIDA 10K SOUTH AFRICA
The club’s South African based runner Suzanne Matonti was in action in the Corrida 10k in Luanda, Angola and was the first non-pro African women, finishing in 42 minutes.

 VIENNA MARATHON
On what was a glorious warm sunny day the club’s Finlay Slane lined up alongside 40,000 other runners for Sunday’s Vienna Marathon. Despite losing his official timing chip , Finlay was delighted to complete the 26.2 miles in 3 hours 41 seconds.

ABN ROTTERDAM MARATHON
Club duo Gerry McCafferty and Brian Welsh crossed the finish line in unison in Sunday’s ABN AMBO Rotterdam Marathon in the same net time of 3 hours 53 minutes 45  seconds. 8327 runners completed the course.
