BOSTON MARATHON

Paul Young has asked me to point out that both Shona and her mother are reported safe following the tragic events in Boston.

Family and friends of Lothian Running Club member Shona Young were relieved to hear on Monday evening that both she and her mother were both reported as safe following the tragic consequences of the Boston Marathon in which Shona was running, with her mother supporting her.

What had been a happy day turned to horror as two explosions ripped through the packed crowds near to the finishing line of the race turning cheers to screams of panic.

Shona was fortunate to pass through the finish line in 3 hours 38 minutes almost half an hour before the blasts occurred.

An official statement reported that there were two explosions at 14.50 [19.50 BST], about 50-100 yards apart as runners crossed the finish line with the official timer showing 4 hours 9 minutes.

This Sunday’s London Marathon will definetly go ahead but security is to be scrutinised and reviewed.
