THIRD TIME SILVER AT EAST RELAYS FOR LOTHIAN LADIES
The Lothian Running Club trio of Chloe Cox, Sarah Inglis and Edel Mooney got their 2012/13 cross-country season off to an encouraging start at the weekend by picking up silver medals at the Scottish Athletics East District XC Relay Championships at Camperdown Park, Dundee.
The senior ladies championship sees each team member cover a 4000 metres course, which was quite undulating, but with some good trails and a good downhill run with a long straight to the finish.
Leading off for the Lothian trio was Chloe Cox, and a determined run saw her keep her team mates well in contention by completing the first leg stage in 5th place in 15 minutes 08 seconds.
A strong second leg run from Sarah Inglis saw her haul the team right into medal contention. The 2010 GB junior XC internationalist completed her leg in 14 minutes 49 seconds, this improved the team up to 3rd place behind Central AC and Edinburgh University.
The anchor leg was run by Edel Mooney who has been in tremendous form of late. The Irish internationalist rapidly overhauled her Edinburgh Uni rival to move into 2nd place, Edel maintained her form right through to the end of the leg crossing the finish line in 14 minutes 33 seconds to claim the silver medals for the Lothian trio behind winners Central AC with Edinburgh AC in 3rd.
In the fastest individual leg standings Edel was 3rd, Sarah 7th and Chloe 11th, all excellent performances.
The club also fielded a B team in the Senior Women’s race, made up of junior Lana Turnbull and veterans Jill Horsburgh and Saran Jones, Lana completed in 17m 20s, Jill 19m 11s and Saran 18m 03s, this placed the team 20th of the 33 teams.
Since the Lothian club was founded in 2000 the senior womens race is the only category they have won medals at in the East District relays, in 2010 Edel, Sarah and her sister Mhairi won silver at Prestonpans, while medals of the same colour were awarded to the trio of Gillian Godfree, Helen Murray and Christine Rougvie at Kelso in 2003.
The Lothian club fielded a full veterans team in the 4 x 4000m Senior Mens Race.
Colin Partridge, [14.19], Scott Nelson[15.29], Alan Moffat [16.13], and Kenton Jones [15.52] finished 31st overall and 8th vets team of the the 55 teams that completed the course.
