3RD TIME LUCKY FOR MAX AT STIRLING

After finishing in the runners-up spot in 2010 and 3rd last year Lothian Running Club’s Max McNeil finally got his head in front to take the Scottish Athletics 10k title at Stirling on Sunday.

Some 800 runners  enjoyed a flat course and despite a stiff breeze at times it was near perfect running weather.

 

 The course starts and finishes at Forthbank, heads through Riverside, across the Forth into Cambuskenneth and towards the Wallace Monument before returning on a similar route.

 

In what was reckoned to be the highest class men’s and women’s field’s ever assembled for the Stirling race, McNeil from Uphall Sation, produced an excellent run to record a new PB of 33 minutes 15 seconds to take the under-20 crown, this also placed him 26th in the overall standings.

 

In the Women’s race, the club’s Sarah Inglis failed to produce the form which saw her take the title 2 years ago, the Falkirk PE teacher never really got to grips with the race and finished a slightly disappointing 13th place behind race winner Sarah McCormack, [Moorfoot Runners] crossing the finish line in 37 minutes 29 seconds, almost 3 minutes outside her course PB. In the overall classification Sarah placed 95th.

 

Also representing the Lothian club in the race were 310th Jim Alexander [44m 34s], 373rd Martin Greig [45m 57s], 472nd Ian Leggett [49m 19s]. 793 runners completed the course.
