SARAH REACHES BUCS FINAL AT OLYMPIC STADIUM

Lothian Running Club’s female captain Sarah Inglis was among a number of Scottish athletes who were privileged to be the first to contest events inside the new Olympic Stadium.
The British Universities and Colleges Sports[BUCS] Championships which took place over four days of the Bank Holiday weekend, from Friday until Monday, was the official test event for this summers London Olympics.
The prestigious meeting attracted entries from a total of 117 learning establishments from all over Great Britain.
Sarah, who was representing Edinburgh University contested the Women’s 5000 metres, running in the second of the two heats on the Friday evening she covered the 12 and a half laps of the new track in 17 minutes 33.40 seconds which placed her 7th of the 20 runners, and good enough to qualify for the final on Sunday.
In a high quality final line up, Sarah virtually replicated her heat time in finishing in 13th place in 17 minutes 32.84 seconds.
The race was won in impressive fashion by GB internationalist Charlotte Purdue in a new BUCS record of 15 minutes 44.01 seconds.
