SCOTTISH 5K ROAD RACE CHAMPIONSHIP

SILVERKNOWES – EDINBURGH

Half a dozen club members enjoyed a successful Wednesday evening competing in the Scottish 5k Road Race Championships at Silverknowes in Edinburgh.

Max McNeil, Stephen Malcolm, Jim Alexander and Ian Leggett contested the Men’s Race with Sarah Inglis and Lana Turnbull in action in the Women’s.

Sarah produced a fine run to finish in the bronze medal place in the Senior Women’s race, the club’s female captain covered the out and back course along the promenade in 17 minutes 03 seconds, which was a new PB by 3 seconds.

Sarah was just edged out by Lasswade AC’s Keira Murray and Edinburgh AC over-35 Jennifer McLean.

There was also a PB for Lana Turnbull who came home in 4th place in the Junior Women category, her time of 19 minutes 37 seconds was a massive 29 seconds improvement on her previous best time.

In a very competitive Men’s event, Max McNeil finished 28th overall and 8th in the Junior Men division also setting new figures of 16 minutes exactly.

The PB theme was continued by Stephen Malcolm who returned a new time of 20 minutes 08 seconds in finishing in 139th place.

Club veterans Jim Alexander and Ian Leggett aslo had excellent runs, Jim crossed the finish line in 147th place in 20 minutes 23 seconds with Ian claiming the MV70 in 23 minutes 21 seconds which also placed him 134th overall of the 203 finishers.

A great effort by all.
