BUSY WEEKEND IN PROSPECT
EVENTS APLENTY
When the weekend athletics fixture list gets busier you know spring is just around the corner[although it hasn’t felt like it this week] it’s the time of the year when the fair weather runner gets round to dusting down the running shoes and getting back into some kind of action.
There is no excuse for not finding an event to participate in this weekend, on Saturday there is a choice of a couple of events and time allows to do both, at 9.30am the weekly Edinburgh Parkrun takes place followed at 1pm by the Edinburgh University Hare & Hounds Kings Buildings 5 mile Road Race.
Further West there are the Strathclyde and Glasgow Parkruns at 9.30am then in the afternoon there is the Jack Crawford Springburn Cup 10k Race from Bishopbriggs Leisure Centre at 2.30pm.
Head North now and there is the White Caterthun Brechin Half Marathon and 5k Fun Run with the action getting underway from Brechin H.S. at 11am.
Cross Country action tales place with the Scottish Secondary Schools Championships at Irvine.
On to Sunday and there is an event taking place nearer to home, the Gartmorn 6 [mile] and Junior 2.8 [mile] races take place from Carsebridge, Sauchie from 10am.
On line entries are now closed but entries will be taken on the day up to the limit of 200, there are plenty places in the junior race available.
The Half Marathon season also kicks off this weekend and following on from the one at Brechin the previous day, Sunday sees the Inverness Half Marathon at 1pm in which the clubs Kenny Mearns is declared to run, while from the shores of Loch Lomond the starter will set the runners on their way for the Balloch to Clydebank Half Marathon at the earlier time of 9.30am.
