Updated: 2011-02-01
Lothian Running Club’s Sarah Inglis[19] produced her best performance of the winter to claim the Under-20 title in the Scottish Athletics 4 Kilometre Cross-Country Championship in Glasgow on Sunday.
Despite the cold, the underfoot conditions in the Bellahouston Park were ideal as the 32 runners in the combined Senior/Under-20 Womens’ race came under starters orders.
The race was dominated by Kilbarchan AC’s Elspeth Curran who went on to take the Senior women’s race leading from start to finish in 13 minutes 49 seconds.
Behind her however there was a ding dong battle going on for the minor placings and the Under-20 title.
In the race for the finish line it was three under-20 athletes who were in contention, and in a driving finish it was Inglis a third year PE student at Edinburgh University who held off all challengers to take the runners-up spot and retain the under-20 title she won over the same course 12 months ago in 14 minutes 11 seconds.
Only a second back in third was Natalie Sharp[Kilbarchan AC] 14.12 with Edinburgh AC’s Emily Stewart a close-up fourth in 14.14.
Sarah will be in cross-country action again this Saturday when she will represent Edinburgh University in the BUCS Championship in Birmingham.
The Lothian club were also represented in the Mens 4k Championship on Sunday with Max McNeil coming home in 60th position overall and 19th under-20 in 13 minutes 51 seconds.
A total of 107 runners completed the mens race.
