SARAH BOUNCES BACK TO TAKE 1500 METRES GOLD
Updated: 2010-06-15
Sarah Inglis kicked off her 2010 track season last month, with by her own standards, a couple of below par performances at both the Loughborough International down South and the Regional Champioships at Wishaw.
However on Sunday in near perfect conditions at Grangemouth, the Lothian Running Club starlet produced a much more pleasing performance to claim the Under-20 Women’s 1500 metres title at the Bank of Scotland Under-23 and Under-20 Championships.
A late decision saw the organisers combine the field for the race which saw the two age groups run together.
It proved to be the correct move as it produced the best race of the day, Sarah[under-20] along with Laura Dunn[under-23] Edinburgh AC set a fast early pace which they maintained until the last 200 metres before being overhauled by VP Glasgow duo Josephine Moultrie[under-23] and Abbey McGhee[under-23] who battled out the finish in which Moultrie prevailed to take the under-23 title from her club mate McGhee with Dunn out-battling Inglis for third to take the bronze.
Sarah’s fourth place however was enough to clinch the gold medal in the Under-20 category, her time of 4 minutes 27.50 seconds which was only 2.29 seconds outside her PB for the distance also moved her up to second place in the 2010 Scottish under-20 rankings for 1500 metres and eighth in the UK.
The big races keep coming for Sarah, this Sunday she steps up in distance to 3000 metres at the Aviva Under-23 and Under 20 Championships at the Bedford International Stadium, the event also incorporates the Trials for the World Junior Championship’s in Moncton, Canada next month.
